The Port de Soller
The
small harbour town; the Port de Soller is a short tram ride down
from Soller and round the sheltered bay to the tram terminus.
The bay is home to two small beaches which are preety poor. Polution
and mud upset by the boats makes the water murky and the slim beach
by the tram terminus is covered in litter and offers little seclusion
whilst so centrally located. The other beach on the south of the
bay (the Platya den Repic is not much better.
A visit to the Burger King in Port de Soller would be to miss out
on some good restaurants. There is infact more choice here than
up the valley in Soller. Fish
is the speciality and prices are generally in the better value category.
At the eastern head of the bay there is a naval base which is a
no go area. Around the other way to the west one can walk following
the signs towards the lighthouse. A pleasent walk taking about an
hour one will be rewarded by the views out to sea, west along the
rocky coast line towards Deia and
back across the bay towards the Port de Soller.
Another much longer (about 10kms) but absolutely magnificent walk
can be taken from the Port de Soller or indeed cycle from Soller
itself west towards the beautiful village of Deia. On foot set out
from the road Camp de sa Mar just by the Platya dEn Repic and head
towards the Hostal Rocamar. The coastline is rugged and there are
hardly any beaches. It is however beautiful and you may find somewhere
you can reach the warm mediteranean waters and a nice rock or gritty
beach to sit on. There is one at the Cala da Deia.
There is a bus service between Port de Soller and Deia.
The tourist office in Port de Soller is just behind the tram terminus
towards Placa Mirro where you turn left. It is not always open in
the winter. The bus stop is just by the Tram Terminus where there
is also a jetty and boat trips. Boats leave north east for the pleasent
Cala Tuent and the heavily commercialised Sa Calobra (6 kms further
along) where you can visit the Torent de Parreis.
